So, I got a job offer last week. For a consulting gig in branding and marketing, at a startup of all places.

I know, I know. Wasn't I just talking about wanting to make art instead of marketing copy? Didn't I swear off the endless cycle of email campaigns and targeted ads after my maternity leave? Didn’t that whole industry of constant marketing/selling burn me the hell out?

So here I am, considering a return to the consumerist world that broke me, wondering if I've grown strong enough in the broken places.

Millennial girlies, you all know this book

Remember when we were sold the "girlboss" dream?

When we thought we could have it all—the creative empire, the healthy smoothies, the perfect self-care routine, doing what we love, cute workout gear, all while maintaining a flawless Instagram aesthetic, #blessed?

My god, how quickly the world turns.

The postpartum period of my life was a huge time of reckoning—one that really made me shed this girlboss ideal.

Motherhood cracked me open like an egg, spilling out all my preconceptions work, identity, self-worth, creativity, presence, community, relationships. I've spent the last two and a half years trying to make sense of the mess, to find lessons in the brokenness.
